My life in the Mayan Society

I am a Mayan, living in the Mayans society.Religion is very important to us. We build our cities around ceremonial and religious centers. We have many amazing templepyramids that rise really high. Temple plazas provides gathering places for people to attend rituals and ceremonies.

I believe in over 160 gods, so that makes me polytheistic. We truly value our gods because we know they can take us out of this world real easily. Mayans believe that only priests can explain signs and lead people through rituals aimed at pleasing gods.

Today, is my day to honor my gods with an offering. I will be sacrificing myself to the gods because it is to be believed that the blood gives the gods strength. Why must I do the sacrificing? I have to sacrifice myself because the people who are usually sacrificed are the orphans, slaves, and nobles captured during war. I do admit that I am a little nervous and scared because i know that this will be my last day, but I have to do this for my wonderful gods. This is how its going to happen: I will be thrown into a sacred well whose water is 60 feet below the ground in the ancient city of Chichen Itza, on the Yucatan Peninsula. If I survive, I will be pulled from the water and asked what message I had brought back from the gods.

So, I get driven to the Yucatan Peninsula. They pick me up, then throw me into the well. Surprisingly, I survive. They see that I am still alive so they pull me out of the well. They then ask me what message did I bring back from the gods. I had no message, so I made up a reasonable message that made a lot of sense so they let me leave and go back home and to my work.
